The Miami Valley Fair Housing Center (MVFHC) provides assistance to people who request an investigation into a situation when they think or feel that their race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status or disability (or their association with members of any of these groups) was the basic motivation for differential treatment given by anyone associated with their search for housing.

Professional counseling and guidance are available to individuals who encounter discrimination in their search for housing, including informing consumers of their options under FHAA and providing support for consumers while going through the process of asserting their housing rights.

MVFHC offers an aggressive testing program to expose discriminatory practices in apartment rentals and real estate purchasing.

Educational programs are also available to inform consumers of their rights and professionals of their responsibilities under the Fair Housing Amendment Act.

Predatory lending

MVFHC operates the Predatory Lending Solutions Project to assist people who are victims of predatory loans. Homeowners and home buyers can get information about predatory lending by visiting www.dontriskyourhome.com or calling the Predatory Lending Solutions hotline at 937-222-9671. Realtors® can download a brochure giving information on predatory lending.

Issues not handled by MVFHC

MVFHC does not provide assistance with discrimination issues within the City of Dayton. If you think you have encountered discrimination while trying to rent or purchase housing in the City, contact Dayton’s Human Relations Council at 937-333-1403.

MVFHC does not provide assistance with landlord/tenant issues unrelated to discrimination. The booklet Your Rights and Duties as a Tenant, presented by Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. and Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (888-534-1432), is a useful resource. Also, if you are a landlord or tenant wanting information on your rights and duties under Ohio law, the Dayton-Montgomery County Ombudsman’s Office has a page about landlord/tenant issues.

MVFHC does not provide assistance in foreclosure cases that are not related to predatory lending. If you do not have a predatory loan and are facing foreclosure, one resource you can contact is Legal Aid Line of Western Ohio at 888-534-1432. Another is the HomeOwnership Center of Greater Dayton at 937-853-1600.
