Foreclosure Defenses, Claims and Resources to Ensure the Best Outcome for Homeowners
Registration for this event is now closed.
This course has been specifically designed for attorneys and legal staff who want to be better equipped and knowledgeable about the mortgage foreclosure crisis, what can be done to assist Ohio homeowners facing foreclosure on their primary residence, and what resources are available to assist attorneys in private practice and their staffs.
The course was offered, free of charge, to attorneys or legal staff from the Dayton and Miami Valley area. This course has been approved by the Supreme Court of Ohio Commission on Continuing Legal Education for 3.00 total CLE hours instruction.

Faculty
Jacqueline C. Hagerott
Ms. Hagerott is the Mediation Counsel for the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Case Mediation Section. She is also the Manager of the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Dispute Resolution Section. In this role she consults with and advises local court staff regarding dispute resolution program planning, implementation and evaluation.
Ms. Hagerott also analyzes problems and trends among court dispute resolution programs; advises mediation coordinators, judges and other court staff regarding dispute resolution policies and procedures; and provides resources to promote efficient and effective program operations. Her experience includes the practice of law, an associate deanship, course design and development, and dispute resolution. She began mediating cases for Ohio courts in 1997. She has an A.A.S. degree in business management, a B.S. degree in accounting and a J.D. as well as an LL.M. degree in business with a concentration in dispute resolution.
Ms. Hagerott is licensed in the State of Ohio, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, and the Supreme Court of the U.S. She is a national speaker and trainer on the topics of foreclosure mediation and preparing clients for mediation, and she served as the Chair of the Ohio State Bar Association’s Dispute Resolution Committee from 2007–2009.
Lori DeWine
Ms. DeWine is the Program Coordinator for the HomeOwnership Center of Greater Dayton. She administers the rescue loan and grant programs and supervises the homeownership specialist staff. The HomeOwnership Center of Greater Dayton has successfully assisted hundreds of homeowners in saving their homes from foreclosure through loan modification, forbearance plans and rescue funds.
Ms. DeWine has over 20 years of experience in finance and education. She holds a Master’s Degree in Education in adult learning and distance education. In addition to her responsibilities at the HomeOwnership Center, she presently coordinates the real estate program at Sinclair Community College where she uses innovative approaches to teach real estate concepts and financial literacy to both students and teaching staff.
Jeff Loeser
Mr. Loeser is an Assistant Attorney General with the Consumer Protection Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, where he focuses on mortgage lending and consumer finance. He has litigated several major mortgage-related cases, including cases against Countrywide Home Loans, Carrington Mortgage Services, HomeEq Servicing, and GMAC Mortgage. He has also prosecuted numerouse foreclosure rescue scams. Mr. Loeser is a member of the State Foreclosure Prevention Working Group, a multi-state group of attorneys general and state bank supervisors that works with the federal government and mortgage servicers to research and implement the best mortgage servicing practices. He is also a member of the executive committee of a multi-state investigation looking into alleged robo-signing and foreclosure fraud by some of the nation’s largest banks. Mr. Loeser is a graduate of the Ohio State University and the Ohio State University Mortiz College of Law.
Randall J. Smith
Mr. Smith has served as Senior Attorney for the Predatory Lending Solutions Project at the Miami Valley Fair Housing Center since December 2007. In that position he has provided foreclosure representation and advice for victims of predatory lending, and he made community education presentations and conducted CLEs on homeowner representation in residential foreclosure litigation. Prior to joining the staff at MVFHC, he was the in-house counsel for the Dayton Metropolitan Housing Authority, providing advice and representation on employment issues, regulatory interpretation, contract review and drafting, employment issues, reasonable accommodation compliance, and prosecuted all tenant evictions. He cam eto DMHA after fifteen years of being a staff/managing attorney at the Legal Aid Society of Dayton/Legal Aid of Western Ohio, working primarily in their housing unit. He was the law director for the city of Greenville, Ohio, and for seven years was in private practice with the firm of Smith and Quance. Mr. Smith holds a B.A. from Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio, and a J.D. from Case Western School of Law, Cleveland, Ohio. He is currently admitted to the Ohio Bar and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. He currently resides with his four dogs in Dayton, Ohio, in a neighborhood devastated by the foreclosure crisis.
Sarah N. Weber
Ms. Weber is a Staff Attorney for the Miami Valley Fair Housing Center’s Predatory Lending Solutions Project. She has more than 10 years of legal experience in various capacities. At MVFHC she has provided foreclosure representation and advice for victims of predatory lending, and she has made community education presentations and conducted CLEs regarding homeowner representation in residential foreclosure litigation. Prior to joining the staff at MVFHC, Ms. Weber worked in the Missouri Public Defender’s Office, Appellate/Post-Conviction Relief Division and Trial Division, for seven years. She received her B.A. in Political Science/Philosophy (Magna Cum Laude) from Hamline University, St. Paul, Minnesota, and her J.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Law, Lincoln, Nebraska. She is currently admitted to the Ohio Bar and the U.S. Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
Charles J. Roedersheimer
Mr. Roedersheimer specializes in the following areas of law: Bankruptcy, Mortgage Finance, Predatory Lending, Consumer Law (emphasis on credit and debt collection claims and disputes), Government and Business Contracts, and Military Law. He has been with the law firm of Thompson and DeVeny for 6 years. He previously held the positions of General Counsel and Associate Regional Counsel for the U.S. Government’s Defense Logistics Agency in Dayton and Columbus; was a reserve Captain in the Navy Judge Advocate General Corp. (now retired); and served as a staff attorney for the Dayton Legal Aid Society. He has served as a lecturer/presenter at local and state bar associations on predatory lending since 2001 and on bankruptcy law since 2005.
Mr. Roedersheimer graduated from the University of Cincinnati Law School (1967) and was a member of Law Review. His other graduate and undergraduate degrees are from Wheeling Jesuit University (B.S., Accounting, 1964) and University of Dayton (M.B.A., 1976). He also attended the National Security Course at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and Leadership/Management Programs at Federal Executive Institute, Charlottesville, Virginia. Mr. Roedersheimer is admitted to the following state and federal bars: Ohio; West Virginia; U.S. District Court, Southern District of Ohio; Military Court Appeals. he is a member of the Ohio, West Virginia and Dayton Bar associations; Dayton Bar’s Fee Dispute and Bankruptcy Committees; American Bankruptcy Law Forum; National Association of Bankruptcy Attorneys; and the National Association of Consumer Advocates.
